I was in the mood for something a bit different for lunch today and decided to try one of the bento boxes from Lin’s Hibachi that I have been hearing about. Lin’s is a hibachi, sushi and bar restaurant located right outside the town of Havre de Grace on Route 40. The restaurant has a sleek, contemporary design, but quite a few decorations with an Asian theme have been added over time, especially in the counter and entrance areas.
There are quite a few choices for the bento box, from salmon teriyaki to chicken katsu. I ordered shrimp and vegetable tempura. My fellow diners ordered salmon teriyaki, steak teriyaki, beef with broccoli and chicken with broccoli. Everyone enjoyed their meals, with the shrimp and vegetable tempura and salmon teriyaki being definite front runners.
The meal comes with miso soup, white rice and salad. You can substitute fried rice for $2. The salad was heavy on the dressing and the rice was slightly sticky. The rest of the meal more than made up for it, though. The shumai and california rolls were outstanding.
The shrimp and vegetable tempura had two good size shrimp, a squash and two sweet potato slices and came with dipping sauce. The squash was slightly too moist, but everything else was perfectly done.
This was my first time trying the bento boxes and I definitely will be back to try them again. I can also recommend the hibachi, especially if you are dining with kids. Our guys thought it was a lot of fun and enjoyed watching their food cooking in front of them.
