Because my mom and sister are two awesome people, they took me to Tea By Two in Bel Air, Maryland for my birthday. This lovely little tearoom is perfect for tea lovers looking to get a little adventurous with their choice of tea, but I confess to being a bit boring with my teas and chose to drink a nice, strong Irish breakfast instead. The tea comes perfectly brewed in a pot and there are several cups’ worth in it.
You enter the tea room through the adjoining little shop, which is stocked with teas to go and related gadgets. The dining area is charmingly decorated with mismatched pitchers, teacups and sweet little touches. It is cozy, but the tables are far enough apart that we didn’t feel crowded.
I decided to go with the High Tea ($22.99) because I wanted to try the crab bisque. My mom ordered the Light Tea ($10.99) and my sister went with the Savory Tea ($12.09)
While the bite size sandwiches and sweets seem small, the reality is that I was unable to finish eating it all and had to pack my scone to go. The bisque, which came in a small bowl was incredible, as was the fried pickle sandwich and the cucumber sandwich. The strawberry sandwich was exquisite. The sweets were also delicious.
I had just asked to have the scone packed in a to go container when I received a very nice surprise – a cupcake in a tea cup and saucer. I also packed it to go. When I ate it two days later, it turned out to be a very nice vanilla cake. While the enormous icing rose was edible, I chose not to eat it, as it was probably a year’s worth of sugar! I did taste one of the petals and if you like traditional birthday cake icing, it is perfect. Very sweet and not too hard. (These birthday cupcakes don’t appear on the menu so I am not sure of the price. It definitely makes a nice gift, as the cup and saucer are a sweet way to remember the day for years to come.)
