The Sunny Day Cafe is a restaurant right in the heart of the charming town of Bel Air, Maryland. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, with the outdoor seating set up right on the wide sidewalk in front of the restaurant. We opted to sit outside to enjoy our meal, as it was a beautiful day. This gave us the chance to enjoy a view of the courthouse fountain during our meal, which is always a pretty and refreshing sight.
While our pups stayed home on this trip, we saw several guests dining with their dogs at outdoor tables. Dogs are warmly welcomed here and the waitstaff gave them each a fresh bowl of water and a milk bone so they were comfortable during their owners’ meals.
If you come as a large group on a nice weekend morning, be prepared for a bit of a wait. (It took us about a half hour to be seated.) The restaurant is quite popular with the breakfast crowd, and, after enjoying my meal, I can see why. We dined as a group of seven, so we ordered an assortment of items, from Maryland crab soup to a breakfast sandwich.
The Maryland crab soup ($4.25 for a cup) was nice and hearty and received a two thumbs up rating, as did the incredible savory crepe I chose, the Florentine($8.50).
The crepe was done to perfection and the filling was a delicious blend of spinach, cheese, mushrooms and caramelized onions. The dish included a nice side salad of mixed greens with dressing. These two choices definitely stood out as amazing, but everyone else enjoyed their food, too.
The breakfast sandwiches with cheese ($5.50) are tasty enough that this is the second week in a row one of our party ordered them. Another guest noted that the sandwich without cheese she ordered was a bit bland. One of the kids ordered a BLT and said he felt the bacon was a little on the skimpy side compared to other BLTs he’s ordered, but the flavor was good. The Bonjour breakfast platters ($8.00) the remaining diners ordered were polished off pretty quickly!
We also had some unexpected fun this week. It is the first of the live music Saturdays that Sunny Day Cafe offers during good weather over the summer months. We were sitting right beside the musicians and were still able to converse with each other, which we really appreciated. (If you are using Snapchat, you can probably tell with this last image that I’m trying out Snapchat and saved my snap to share on the blog.)
