Looking for an inexpensive, clean place to stay within walking distance to the beach? The Beacon Motel in Lewes, Delaware is one of my favorite options. This charming, retro spot is truly a motel and brings back fond memories of motels we stayed at during road trips my family took in the 80’s.
When I enjoyed my stay at the Beacon, there was a quilter’s group visiting at the same time. Their projects spread throughout the lobby added to the cozy ambiance. I kind of felt like I was staying at my grandma’s house on a large scale. All the employees I met were downright nice and the unit I stayed in was immaculate.
The decor is not new, but matches the retro feel of the hotel. Recent improvements include an elevator to be finished in April 2016, which is essential for visitors who can’t hike up the stairs or have their arms filled with little ones. ADA compliant rooms and baths are slated for the near future.
Parking is plentiful and there are several restaurants within walking distance. If you want to park your car for the duration and walk the few blocks to the beach and restaurants, you can absolutely do so.
The building’s bottom floor houses the motel lobby and a row of shops. I visited the bicycle shop, the deli and the art gallery while I stayed there.
